Aurora Murcescu

Profile: Bio, Q+A

I'm a Romanian artist specializing in silk painting. While my career path was not always close to arts (I worked as a meteorologist which actually helped me forge a special relationship with nature and also as a Spanish-Romanian translator. As the 2000's arrived I returned to my initial passion and started working as a texture and evironment artist for an international animation studio. It was there that I learned to also use digital tools that I keep using today, such as Adobe Photoshop and Auutodesk Maya.

Since 2010 I began to steadily approach silk painting which now became a full time job and passion. I was also very happy to discover that there is an extremelly strong and friendly community of silk painters out there.

Silk Souls: Describe Silk Painting with only three words!:

Artists Answer: The silk painting is a journey with many characters. The painter, silk and
color. The end result speaks on how to have communicated with each other. Everyone puts their
conditions and others should take into account the other and adapt to the technique, the subject and
object of course is simezas support and works on silk. This theoretically speaking. Practically, as
in any art silk painting is a means to communicate. Besides the definition of silk friend loves at
all times because the material responds differently, and enables you to discover other sides of his
creativity.

Silk Souls: You are an Artist that Paints on Silk. How long are you actively involved with Painting on
Silk?

Artists Answer: I have 4 years painting silk. Painting indeed about 25 hours a week and
documentation, material procurement and marketing about 35 hours a week.

Silk Souls: What made you to become a Painter (rather than let us say a Sculptor / Fotographer..) and
why did you choose Silk as your Medium? What makes working with Silk so special?

Artists Answer:
I liked painting since I was a child, runs an art school, painting section and color always helped
me express myself. But never force me not come to paint constantemente.Un day I saw a video on
youtube about batik Quite so beautiful that I was moved to try some colors to paint silk fabric. I
bought colored vapor fixation and discovered the material reacting as live fluidity of color, mixing
and was moving into my own pace. Silk is alive. The tame but you also have to feel his will.

Silk Souls: Do you have a favorite Theme, which are your most loved techniques or preferred
Materials?

Artists Answer:
I especially enjoy painting in the art of aquarela, finding new textures and layers work in color and
colored lines that finalizen drawing. I have been forced to paint on different types of silk (second
hand), the Romanian market still poor in this view, but each type has its charm.
Silk Souls: We take your tools away…
Let’s assume, you could not live your Art as Silk Artist, in other words, you would be forced to give
up on Silkpainting! Is there an Alternative?

Artists Answer:
Alternatively could paint in design programs such as Photoshop or Corel Draw pictures intended for
stamping on silk dresses or mix print with hand painting.

Silk Souls: What in your opinion is the difference between “being creative” towards “creating Art”?

Artists Answer: Creativity takes the form of beautiful things that represent good talent domination
of technique, harmony. Art evokes emotions and a special type of communication.
Silk Souls: Why do you believe Silk Art is less recognized as Art? Does Silk Painting qualify as
“ART” for YOU?

Artists Answer: Definitely silk painting is art but the destination of the painted objects is decorative
or sartorial, is more perisable and has not been promoted enough art, drawing on evidence the
unique properties of the material.

Silk Souls: Give advice to a new Painter, who never has worked with Silk before. How should they
start?

Artists Answer: First I suggest taking a piece of silk observe their properties and play with colors to
establish a relationship with the material.

Silk Souls: Last before last…: Why do you participate in this Project?

Artists Answer: Because I had the feeling you're looking for the same purpose I have. Discovering
art on silk.

Silk Souls: Apart from being an Artist, what makes you happy?

Artists Answer: Communicate with my family, enjoy the people and nature. Knowing what unites
us with God.

Thank you Aurora!

Baboo Singh, India

Q + A

Dear Stefani,

I have tried to answer all your quarries as sincerely as I could.

I am Babboo Singh from India . Art in any form is  nourishment for the spirit .

StefaniaSilkArts: Describe Silk Painting with only three words .

Artists Answer:    Describing silk painting in three words is not easy but my answer would  be………. “ Pigment Silken Tango “

StefaniaSilkArts: You are an Artist that Paints on Silk. How long are you actively involved with Painting on Silk .

Artists Answer:  I  was introduced to silk painting in the USA   and I have been actively  painting since year 1999  as a silk artist .Though I have been painting on silk materials with  other fabric paints since 35 odd years.

StefaniaSilkArts: What made you to become a Painter (rather than let us say a Sculptor / Fotographer..) and why did you choose Silk as your Medium? What makes working with Silk so special?

Artists Answer: Creativity has been a constant companion since childhood .Probably being a Libran has something to do with it. Actually I have worked with diverse mediums in my artistic journey as…. Oils , water colors , stippling ,  Montage work. I have always felt as an artist one should be dynamic and versatile and enjoy the art of exploration as much as artistic expression.

I chose Silk painting because I was fascinated with the exciting possibility of working with such an unusual medium .The vibrancy and richness of hues that can be achieved with dyes on silk  without sacrificing any of the natural grace and softness of the fabric is what hooked me to this medium .I also love the dance and fusion of color as it flows on silk and creates effects that even surprise me at times.

StefaniaSilkArts: Do you have a favorite Theme, which are your most loved techniques or preferred Materials?

Artists Answer: Though at times I delve into different themes  such as ethnic, oriental,  tribal but flowers remain my all-time favorite for my artistic expression. I think the general sense of connection with mother nature has a potent influence in my work .I keep trying different techniques .Chinon Chiffon is my favorite silk as it has crinkles and has a lovely sheen too….it works very well for the apparels I design as it gives the wearer  a very delicate and fairylike charming look .

StefaniaSilkArts: We take your tools away… Let’s assume, you could not live your Art as Silk Artist, in other words, you would be forced to give up on Silkpainting! Is there an Alternative?

Artists Answer: Like I said I am a creative person ,I would probably digress into another field like designing gardens , designing homes ( I designed my fathers home into an ethnic traditional Haveli ) , doing up interiors or just be a designer and dress up ladies beautifully !! Yes I could take up cookery classes too.

StefaniaSilkArts: What in your opinion is the difference between “being creative” towards “creating Art”?

Artists Answer:One cannot  create art without being creative .For creating art one needs to be observant ,  have an eye for what is beautiful around  you ,and a general sense of childlike joy  in your heart .Only then can you be inspired to create art. Working hard of course is imperative.

StefaniaSilkArts: Why do you believe Silk Art is less recognized as Art? Does Silk Painting qualify as “ART” for YOU?

Artists Answer: I think the reason for it is,  that not many artists delve in this medium as it is not a very forgiving art form .The artist is not allowed any mistakes while working .It is also time consuming and costly .Also not very many people know about it  .It most definitely qualifies as “Art” for me.

StefaniaSilkArts: Give advice to a new Painter, who never has worked with Silk before. How should they start?

Artists Answer: An artist should be able to draw free hand , first of all  .If you are tracing a design  with gutta , the effort will show in your work. You also have to remember that the dyes flow freely on the silk , the artist has to control the movement of pigment on silk rather than its placement. If you have worked with water colors before it helps.

StefaniaSilkArts: Last before last…: Why do you participate in this Project?

Artists Answer: Honestly speaking …..I am humbled and honored that I have been asked  to join this elite group of talented artists. I do not consider myself such a great artist. I still need to learn and improve a lot.

StefaniaSilkArts: Apart from being an Artist, what makes you happy?

Artists Answer: Apart from peace and harmony and beauty around me weather in word, thought or visual .I am the happiest being involved in some creative project , whether it is embroidering a frock for my granddaughter  or making gumpaste flowers . I am happy when I spend time with my family and grandchildren .I am happy when I reset my house décor . I am happy planning my garden and spending time in it with my friends .Now I am happy to be in touch with so many

Q + A

Describe Silk Painting with only three words!
Artists Answer:

Silk painting is love, enjoyment, and a challenge.

You are an Artist that Paints on Silk. How long are you actively involved with Painting on Silk?
Artists Answer:

I started 12 or 13 years ago

What made you to become a Painter (rather than let us say a Sculptor / Fotographer..) and why did you choose Silk as your Medium? What makes working with Silk so special?
Artists Answer:

Silk was a big challenge for me because of its tenderness. I like working with silk because then I concentrate only on the canvas that's in front of me. It brings me peace and pleasure once I finish it.

Do you have a favorite Theme, which are your most loved techniques or preferred Materials?
Artists Answer:

I don't have any special theme, I find inspiration in everything that surrounds me. I work with silk PONGE 55

We take your tools away…
Let’s assume, you could not live your Art as Silk Artist, in other words, you would be forced to give up on Silkpainting! Is there an Alternative?
Artists Answer:

When I don't work with silk there's a lot of other art and techniques that I do. Some of them are DECOUPAGE and painting - oil on canvas.

What in your opinion is the difference between “being creative” towards “creating Art”?
Artists Answer:

To be creative can be more or less everyone and for the creation of art you need to have something more than creativity.

Why do you believe Silk Art is less recognized as Art? Does Silk Painting qualify as “ART” for YOU?
Artists Answer:

For me painting on silk is definitly art, but I think that its less recognized as art because its not easy to paint on silk, it takes a lot of courage to do it.

Give advice to a new Painter, who never has worked with Silk before. How should they start?
Artists Answer:

My advice for beginers is that they do it only if they want it, only if they recognize need and wish towards painting on silk. Go slowly with a lof of love and patience.

Last before last…: Why do you participate in this Project?
Artists Answer:

You're asking me why am I participating in this project ? Its simple - because I love my work on silk and because you contacted me and recognized my talent and work.

Apart from being an Artist, what makes you happy?
Artists Answer:

My happines lies in my health, my family and friends and in my patiente, love and will to make something with my own hands .

Thank you very much for contacting me and giving me this opportunity and for recognizing my talent and my work .

Best wishes,

Carmen Bacigalupe Rios, Spain

Free Silk Shawl design

Profile: Q+A (Spanish)

1° Creativa, delicada y adictiva

A tu salud Stefanie!!!

Rockita: Describe Silk Painting with only three words!
Artists Answer:
Vibrant,Intriguing,Dymanic

Rockita: You are an Artist that Paints on Silk. How long are you activelyinvolved with Painting on Silk?

Artists Answer:

I first found them in the mid 1980s, recently returned to them after completing school, including post grade work & family things.

Rockita: What made you to become a Painter (rather than let us say aSculptor / Fotographer..) and why did you choose Silk as your Medium? What
makes working with Silk so special?
Artists Answer:

I like the challenge the medium presents.I strive to paint as well as those masters in the medium,

Rockita: Do you have a favourite Theme, which are your most loved techniques
or preferred   Materials?

Artists Answer:

I don't do portraits since i have trouble getting a likeness of the person, but i pant a variety of other subjects

Rockita: We take your tools away…

Let’s assume, you could not live your Art as Silk Artist, in other words,
you would be forced to give up on Silkpainting! Is there an Alternative?
Artists Answer:

Fabric, for art quilting. there's always watercolor, colored pencils & paper.

Rockita: What in your opinion is the difference between “being creative”
towards “creating Art”?
Artists Answer:

Being creative, to me, means expressing yourself in a variety of ways, whereas creating art is the process of that expression

Rockita: Why do you believe Silk Art is less recognized as Art? Does Silk Painting qualify as “ART” for YOU?

Artists Answer:

It may be less recognized since its a difficult medium to master & fewer artists are willing to try it. Silk painting is definitely Art in the fact that one uses silk, instead of canvas or paper, as a ground to express themselves through painting

Rockita: Give advice to a new Painter, who never has worked with Silk
before. How should they start?
Artists Answer:

Read everything you can find on the medium, watch videos, scour the internet for information, then try it, on small pieces to begin with. Silk for painting is actually less expensive than cotton fabrics this day & time.

Rockita: Last before last…: Why do you participate in this Project?
Artists Answer:

To get my work "out there" for the world to see, as well as to connect with other silk artists & to have a small, but hopefully important voice in the world of silk painting. If we put it out there, others will come . .

Profile: Q+A

Rockita: Describe Silk Painting with only three words!
Artists Answer:  freedom, concentration, happiness

Rockita: You are an Artist that Paints on Silk. How long are you actively involved with Painting on Silk?
Artists Answer:  I started 20 years ago  as a high school student. There was an opportunity to create some ties for one Pipe club (and earn some money). And that was the beginning. I met silk technique and later I discovered how amazing my monumental painting can be executed on silk.

Rockita: What made you to become a Painter (rather than let us say a Sculptor / Fotographer..) and why did you choose Silk as your Medium? What makes working with Silk so special?
Artists Answer:  Love painting is in my nature. I love colors and I can paint large pictures. Large walls I can fill with colors. It is just me. And  why silk? As I mentioned before, it is very cool medium which has an impressive virtue in cooperation with colors, water etc. And of course I like drawing too.

Rockita: Do you have a favorite Theme, which are your most loved techniques or preferred Materials?
Artists Answer:  nature, zoom, detailed patterns, folklore

Rockita: We take your tools away… Let’s assume, you could not live your Art as Silk Artist, in other words, you would be forced to give up on Silkpainting! Is there an Alternative?
Artists Answer:  Well, I would have to find something else, and paint on other textile base.

Rockita: What in your opinion is the difference between “being creative” towards “creating Art”?
Artists Answer:  I hate the word Art. In these days it is empty. Creativity is the main power of life. You can find so many children and people who have no fantasy, no idea, no interest… It must be poor and unhappy life dedicated to watching TV and to be passive. If you are creative, it doesn’t matter how the result looks like, important is the process, that’s the real adventure!

Rockita: Why do you believe Silk Art is less recognized as Art? Does Silk Painting qualify as “ART” for YOU?
Artists Answer:  I like the process of painting on silk, it is the main thing I do care.
And I think that silk has also use values. And it is important and great device!

Rockita: Give advice to a new Painter, who never has worked with Silk before. How should they start?
Artists Answer:  With patient, humbleness and love.

Rockita: Last before last…: Why do you participate in this Project?
Artists Answer:  I want to make silk painting more visible, valuable. I want to connect creative people together. Because “art” is not just for chosen ones.

Rockita: Apart from being an Artist, what makes you happy?
Artists Answer:  My kids, the Sun, nature and happy people.

Daniel Jean-Baptiste - Paradise Clownfish

Profile: Q+A

Rockita: Describe Silk Painting with only three words!
Artists Answer: Excitement,

Love, Fascination.

Rockita: You are an Artist that Paints on Silk. How long are you actively involved with Painting on Silk?
JB Artists Answer: Oh! I am totally involved, I paint 8-12 hrs per day, on daily basis since 1981.

Rockita: What made you to become a Painter (rather than let us say a Sculptor / Fotographer..) and why did you choose Silk as your Medium? What makes working with Silk so special?
JB Artists Answer:I did not choose it! I loved to play Music, perhaps I could have become a devoted Musician. Yet where I have been located as a young Man, there was no exposure. Naturally I enjoyed painting with Watercolour or Pencils, I have always been creative. Only later I discovered Silk as a Canvas by accident. It was 1980 for a commercial Art Company in Toronto. It just so happened that the Silk line was a buisy part of our Company and they gave me a chance to work on silk. It was a fantastic experience, it felt like a glove, just fitted me.

Rockita: Do you have a favorite Theme, which are your most loved techniques or preferred   Materials?
JB Artists Answer: I do not have a preferred Material or Technique. Just anything that lets me express the light and texture is fine for me. Yes, I love to paint my Caribbean exotic World, the stunning natural beauty, Flora and Fauna of St. Lucia - I do not paint human beings. I want to bring the joy and love of my Island World to all the People and show them natural Wild life since many will never have a chance perhaps to come near such wonderful creatures.

Rockita: We take your tools away…
Let’s assume, you could not live your Art as Silk Artist, in other words, you would be forced to give up on Silkpainting! Is there an Alternative?
JB Artists Answer: (Confused! Yet showing a fast spontaneous response) I don't think so! I can not answer this question! I live to create from Moment to Moment, perhaps I would have to invent myself all over again. I have no Idea?

Rockita: What in your opinion is the difference between “being creative” towards “creating Art”?
JB Artists Answer: (Laughs) There is no difference! It is the same. It is a human thing. Every creation is Art, everything you do with Love is creation, is Art. To differentiate is the Art-Market, they create a huge confusion, this is the Media, is manipulation. Creation and Art is the same. There is no right or wrong in creation, it is all the same, all is love.

Rockita: Why do you believe Silk Art is less recognized as Art? Does Silk Painting qualify as “ART” for YOU?
JB Artists Answer:ONE:HUNDRED:PERCENT!

It is Nonsense, to qualify one expression above another. Every single creative expression, done with Love is Art.

Rockita: Give advice to a new Painter, who never has worked with Silk before. How should they start?
JB Artists Answer: I do not give advice to my Students! The best is, always to simply try it out, I don't care how advanced or novice my Students are. I give as little advice as possible! I believe in active participation, dive in! We should always research and experiment. Oh, perhaps if I can give one piece of advice it is this: Never stop experimenting, try out new textures, play with light, stay open minded with a childs eye! And NOTHING is a MISTAKE! There are no mistakes just reactions!

Rockita: Last before last…: Why do you participate in this Project?
JB Artists Answer:I am curious!

Rockita: Apart from being an Artist, what makes you happy?
JB Artists Answer: Excuse me? I don't think of happiness. I am just me. Happiness is a state of accepting your entire life, It is about happily being without choice, there is no wishful thinking.

Thank you for your valued time and giving us insight into your Relation towards Silk and Silk Painting.

Designers Silks, Diana Kisirauskiene

Bio

My name is Diana Kisirauskiene – Am a silk painter, I was born in Lithuania, but currently recide in South West England, Swindon town.

I started my jouney as a silk painter in 2007, this being first time to paint on silk on my own. It was very interesting to see what was possible to do on silk. I have been interested and fascinated with painting since childhood. Flowers in particular are my specialty. Chinese art also interests me. In some of my work I use the design techniques of famous artists. Van Gogh, Climt, Dali, Mucha, Kandinsky have all inspired me. However, I find painting on silk the most interesting form of expression that never ends. In addition to this, I also pursue other forms of art - felting, jewellery and decoupage.

My biggest passion, is my love of silk painting. I have learnt so many different techniques of silk painting, but still searching for new oportunities in this art. Painting to me is like meditation, relaxing and making things what i like the most. Am Still on a journey to discovering new features and techniques  - I feel in love with it. its my passion my dream my destiny!!!!!!!
